In January, the ENACT Partnership Co-Chairs and Secretariat held planning meetings in Bonn to establish a course of action for the Partnership in the year ahead.
The meetings were attended by representatives from Egypt, Germany, and the IUCN, and aimed to define and confirm strategic plans for 2025: focusing on governance, funding, and operational priorities to align the Partnership’s business plan with current activities and upcoming opportunities. This is what 2025 has in store for ENACT:
Global NbS Roadmap Report
First on the list is continuing ENACT’s knowledge leadership on NbS for climate resilience. The cornerstone of this year’s work is the development of the ENACT flagship Global NbS Roadmap Report — building on the State of ENACT’s NbS Goals report released last year. This year’s report will address critical gaps in NbS policy, investment, and implementation, providing actionable insights for decision-makers. It will synthesise individual NbS workstream analyses and broader policy recommendations to inform the primary focus of the climate agenda this year: UNFCCC COP30.
Events
In terms of events, ENACT has its sights set on two major gatherings in 2025: the UNFCCC COP30 and the IUCN World Conservation Congress (WCC). Scheduled for November 2025 in Belém, Brazil, COP30 is a pivotal climate conference under the UNFCCC, gathering global leaders to advance climate action. The conference will focus on enhancing global cooperation to implement effective climate policies and strategies, which are crucial for achieving long-term climate resilience and sustainable development goals. For the ENACT partnership, COP30 represents a strategic opportunity to showcase its flagship report and align its activities with broader climate and nature coordination efforts. Furthermore, NbS is anticipated to be at the forefront of many discussions, highlighting the necessity of ENACT’s role in catalysing effective climate action.
Taking place in October 2025 in the UAE, the IUCN WCC is the world’s largest conservation event, uniting diverse stakeholders to set conservation priorities. The Congress focuses on the key themes of Scaling Up Resilient Conservation Action, Reducing Climate Overshoot Risks, Delivering on Equity, Transitioning to Nature-Positive Economies and Societies, and Disruptive Innovation and Leadership for Conservation, and is ultimately a vibrant hub for sharing innovative solutions and forging partnerships, driving forward the global agenda on sustainable development with enthusiasm and determination. Hence, ENACT’s work is particularly relevant within the context of the WCC, as its acceleration of NbS enhances ecosystem resilience and helps reduce climate risks, while its commitment to equity ensures inclusive benefits for communities. By integrating NbS into economic planning, ENACT supports the transition to nature-positive economies – and its innovative strategies exemplify the disruptive leadership needed for transformative conservation, making ENACT a vital contributor to the WCC’s objectives. Furthermore, the WCC will provide a suitable stage to showcase the successes of ENACT partners in applying NbS through interactive formats.
NbS Tracking and Dashboard
A crucial aspect of ENACT’s 2025 plans is the enhancement of NbS tracking and dashboard development, which looks to elevate the monitoring and communication of the progress of various ENACT Partner NbS initiatives. The primary objective is to establish a robust set of indicators that align with existing frameworks, enabling effective tracking of the partnership’s contributions to climate resilience, ecosystem health, and global emissions reductions. This effort aims to create a pragmatic monitoring and reporting framework that is not only easy for ENACT partners to use but also integrates seamlessly with existing systems. By providing a clear set of actionable, measurable indicators, the framework will enhance global tracking of NbS progress, fostering more coordinated and effective efforts towards the partnership’s aims.
To complement this, ENACT will develop an online dashboard to communicate progress on its three NbS goals. This dashboard will be a central feature of a new ENACT website, serving as the primary hub for partners and audiences. The website will focus on communicating ENACT’s vision and mission, showcasing progress toward the ENACT 2030 NbS Goals, and hosting resources and updates on events and partnership activities. By offering a comprehensive and user-friendly platform, the dashboard and website aim to enhance engagement and visibility, ensuring that the global community remains informed and motivated by ENACT efforts to accelerate the NbS agenda.
